I was over in Woolacombe yesterday to get some sunset photos. I thought I’d park up on Marine Drive to get a more elevated angle. I took a series of images using various wide and telephoto lenses. Just as the sun slipped over the Horizon I witnessed a vivid flash as I shot a burst of frames. Read the rest of this entry »

More quality surf, better weather and a pleasant air temperature drew the crowds to Croyde today with a busy line up and a fair few families and visitors wandering the sandy shore. Although you’d never know from this shot. You can vote for this shot on Magicseaweed. Read the rest of this entry »

Another mixed bag on the North coast today. Having seen the forecast last night I’d planned a bit of a mellow start, followed by a morning of fishing for flatties with rich over at Graysands. A 9am call from Nigel followed by a quick scan of the webcams on Eyeball-surfcheck led to a hasty rethink. Read the rest of this entry »

I know its been a long time coming, but I’ve finally sorted out a signed limited edition print from the Surfgirl shoot from way back in July. Featuring many of the top female surfers from North Devon including former european champ Sarah Whitely as well as Billabong duo Laura Crane and Lucy Campbell. Read the rest of this entry »

With my press assignments out of the way for the day(although not the editing), I was free to sniff out a bit of surf before the sun went down. Read the rest of this entry »

If you’re a surfer you’ll probably know or heard of Gulfstream surfboards. I’d owned a second-hand GS board but knew nothing of the company or the people involved in the creation of my stick. That all changed several years ago with one of those chance introductions.

I’ve been holed up at home adding a bit more content, links etc, to the site as well as doing a bit of image housekeeping. Coralling the best of my photos into a more usable archive, freeing up hard drive space (again!).

Got sent this earlier today and nearly spat tea across my keyboard.

One of the funniest skits I’ve seen using this footage(think it’s from the film Downfall), and it makes a serious point about Nikon’s pricing policy!!The D3x is a hell of a piece of kit, but the cost of upgrading and the additional accessories make it a big outlay. Are you going to be able to charge your client more because you’ve got a D3x rather than a D3 or D2x.

The charts were predicting 6 meters of swell with 16 second period. Big stormy waves would be order of day, and maybe a bit of surf action at some of the most sheltered spots. So it was up early and head to somewhere exposed for some dramatic storm photos. Driving to Hartland before dawn the signs were good, wind, hail and even the flicker of lightning.

On paper it sounded great. Official turn-on/reveal of a new wind turbine on the edge of Exmoor national park at the Calvert Trust. Timed for just after sunset and creatively lit it sounded like I’d be able to get all inventive and get the whole story in one shot.
The weather had other ideas. Read the rest of this entry »
