Concrete waves, Barnstaple, North Devon
Barnstaple’s Rock park was home for years to SRP before its ill-fated move to Pottington. But with vigorous campaigning and loads of lobbying, fundraising and generally making a noise, a concrete skate park was built. I was there for the mayhem that was the uber-packed opening day that saw pro teams, dignitaries and somewhere in the middle “Beats Workin” supremo and DJ extraordinaire Glen Field, celebrate a great achievement.
Dave Beckley
Its such a buzz just a few years later to hang out next to the bowl with my kids and watch the range of people young and old using such a great community resource. Its sometimes a struggle to stop 4 year old George from trying to drop/slide-in to the 8ft bowl, he’s so keen to ride some concrete waves. I have tried to explain that he’s got to learn to skate the more gentle features first…maybe learning to stay on the sk8 would be a good start.
Dave again…
I shot these last year and when I hooked up with Dave Beckley and a few others for a little session, I’d kind of forgotten about them to be honest but its nice that they are finally seeing the light off day.
